On or about Monday, February 22, 2010, the Recration, Parks & Cultural Affairs Office and operations will be relocating to Maplewood Town Hall, 547 Valley Avenue, Maplewood.
Description of Department:
The Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs provides a wide array of year round activities, programs and services to meet the diverse needs of our community. From youth sports to adult programs, senior services to special needs and arts & theatre programs to the community pool. The Department is involved year round in improving the quality of life for the residents of Maplewood.
Mission Statement:
2010 Department Goals
1. Improve customer service by providing ongoing training to the staff;
2. Improve and expand programs & services by an ongoing evaluation of these by both staff and participants and exploring new and more diversified needs in the Community;
3. Improve recreational facilities by evaluating all of our parks, playgrounds and recreation areas and incorporating ADA improvements such as accessible swings, tables and water fountains and by improving our facility maintenance program;
4. Complete Dehart Park & Community Center Improvements through close coordination with the Township Engineer’s Office and the Contractor;
5. Increase co-ordination w/ South Orange and the Board of Education for improved facility usage for sports teams;
6. Expand, improve and increase the use of volunteers by providing them with the tools and training for field and facility maintenance;
7. Continue improvements to Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts;
8. Increasing the cooperation between our Department and South Orange to help reduce costs and improve and expand our offerings
9. Develop and implement both short and long range plan for improvements to Community Pool including facility, program and staff improvements
10. Continue to provide the programs and services that our residents want, need and deserve in a professional and cost effective manner.

The Recreation Department will be open for business the following Saturdays from 9-12 noon:
